A rich texture with silky tannins and balancing freshness; deep aromas and flavors of blackberries and dark plums, dried herbs and violets with a subtle hint of leather; and a luxuriously long finish that allows these complex flavors to linger on and on.
The wine from California wines greatest son – while supplies last.
Rich aromas of blueberry, red fruit, and rustic leather stand out as flavors of boysenberry and red currant lead to hints of chocolate truffle and plum. The Tinto Rey is medium-bodied and seamless, with soft-grain tannins and just an edge of zesty tartness weaved in with the sweetness of the fruit. Pair with a rare rack of lamb, spicy Spanish sausage or wood-fired pepperoni and bell pepper pizza.

Flavors include bright fresh fruit like pineapple, lemon zest, tangerine, and Granny Smith apple. Nicely spiced on the palate with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon, this wine is rich, creamy and full of flavor with structure and a lifted tropical finish. Our Reserve Chardonnay is stunning when paired with pork loin with roasted apple and vanilla, lobster salad with avocado, and citrus or ricotta agnolotti with brown butter and sage.
TASTING NOTES Our 2012 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a lively and full-bodied expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from an exceptional vintage. It has a lovely garnet color and opens with aromas of black currant, orange zest, and raspberry. These aromas are framed by nuanced notes of vanilla, marshmallow, and cocoa, eliciting an effect reminiscent of chocolate-covered berries. The attack is rich and gives way to a mid-palate with breadth and depth, supported with refreshing acidity and integrated dusty tannins. This wine has power with an unusual vitality and structural balance. Given proper cellar conditions, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2034.
VINTAGE DESCRIPTION The 2012 vintage saw many winemakers and vintners excited about the exceptional growing conditions. Not only were we excited about the great growing conditions but also the innovative vineyard techniques like berry sensory analysis and precision farming we implemented in our vineyards. The dry winter was followed by well-timed rainfall in February, March and mid-April when we received about two inches that filled the soil profile before the coming season. Budbreak was even and bloom progressed quickly, leading to clusters with both high quality and high quantity potential. The summer weather was wonderfully cooperative with only a single day’s high above 100˚F from May through the end of September and no precipitation until the end of October. A small heatwave on the 1st and 2nd of October was perhaps the only blip in the otherwise mild weather pattern. We began harvest on September 24th and concluded on October 20th before an inch of rain fell in the Alexander Valley on the 23rd . The final tally showing a bountiful harvest wherein quality was immensely promising from the outset. “The 2010 Langhe Rosso Arte is a crowd-pleasing blend of Nebbiolo (about 90 percent) and Barbera that drinks sumptuously even at this young age. It shows the important structure, acidity, and promptness of fruit for a steady evolution. Many of Clerico’s best wines are engineered in this fashion: Although they taste beautiful straight out of the bottle, they generously reward those who wait. In this case, you get layers of bold fruit, spice, and tobacco that are carefully woven into the thick and enduring fabric of the wine. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025.
